„Yidish far ale” – language course

The „Yidish far ale – Yiddish For All” language course was a four semester program of Yiddish culture and language from October 2013 to June 2015 in Wroclaw.

The course offered not only language instruction but also explored the national heritage that was Yiddish culture. Yiddish is key to the identity of Ashkenazic Jews but was often stereotyped as a jargon or dialect and its important status as the vessel for social and cultural communication was dismissed. The Yiddish language created world-classs literature and attracted avant garde artists, poets and literary critics. The goal of the language program was to promote knowledge of this language and to showcase its achievements.  The course was taught by dr Joanna Lisek, a lecturer in Jewish literature and culture and Yiddish language at the Jewish Studies Department of Wroclaw University.
